The company primarily engages in the mining, washing, processing and distribution of coal through railway transportation, coal chemical and power generation business.
As of December 31, 2013, Yanzhou Coal owned and operated 21 coal mines across China and Australia with abundant coal resources,including Shandong and Shanxi Provinces and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in China, as well as Queensland, New SouthWales and Western Australia in Australia. In addition, as of December 31, 2013, Yanzhou Coal had four coal mine projects under construction inChina andfour exploration tenements in Australia.
Yanzhou Coal directly owns and operateseight coal mines in the HQs area in the PRC, namely, Nantun, Xinglongzhuang, Baodian, Dongtan, JiningNo.2 and JiningNo.3, Beisu and Yangcun, which produced in the aggregate approximately 48.6% of our total coal output in 2013. As of December 31, 2013,these six mines had approximately 1,694.95 million tonnes of in-place proven and probable reserves and the recoverable coal reserves in Beisu and Yangcun are 75.1 million tonnes and 90.15 million tonnes, respectively.
Yanzhou Coal also holds equity interests in a number of coal mines in China through our subsidiaries.Shanxi Nenghua operates Tianchi Coal Mine, which holds approximately 118.2 million tonnes of recoverable reserves; HezeNenghua operates Zhaolou Coal Mine, which holds approximately 412.2 million tonnes of recoverable reserves; and Ordos NengHua operates Anyuan Coal Mine and Wenyu Coal Mine, which holds approximately 30.47 million tonnes and 47.89 million tonnes, respectively.
In Australia, Yanzhou Coalmanages its listed assets and stripped assets through Yancoal Australia. Yanzhou Coal currently operates nine coal mines in Australia, including Austar, Yarrabee, Ashton,Moolarben, Gloucester, Donaldson, Middle Mount, Cameby Downs and Premier, and four advanced-exploration stage projects, namely Monash, Athena, Harrybrandt and Wilpeena.Yanzhou Coal collectively held approximately 5,239 million tonnes of JORC-compliant resources as ofDecember 31, 2013, among which Yancoal Australia holds 3,859 million tonnes and Yancoal International holds 1,380 million tonnes. |
